Offshore Logistics
Snake Island Logistics is a major new development that serves as a support centre for offshore oil & gas projects. It is situated at Snake Island Integrated Free Zone and some of the services it offers include logistics and materials handling, storage and shipping as well as aviation and marine services. The company is also developing a subsea technology and service park including facilities to host integrated project teams.
Lagos Deepwater Shore Base (LDWSB)
In 2005, a number of oil companies with operations in Nigeria considered it of strategic importance to develop a deepwater shore base in Lagos to complement the existing support facilities at Onne Port in Port Harcourt. The potentials for this were confirmed by a joint industry study conducted by Shell, Chevron, Exxon, Total, Conoco and Agip.
The Lagos Deepwater Shore Base (LDWSB) was an initiative by Chevron, ExxonMobil and Shell which culminated in a tender process in strict compliance with procedures set out by the National Petroleum Investment Management Services (NAPIMS) and resulted in a decision to award the LDWSB Contract to Skillbase, a Jagal Group company. The objectives of the LDWSB are to develop modern, cost effective shore base infrastructure in a way that can fuel the growth of deepwater E&P activities in Nigeria. The new base would also help diversify the offshore and onshore logistics support facilities along the coastline in support of deepwater operations and in the interest of national security.
The benefits of the LDWSB include significant employment opportunities, increased competition, contribution towards Nigerian Content Development initiatives, additional supply lines for the industry and attract new investors to the deepwater sector. The new base reduces operating expenses and the pressure of upfront investment from the Nigerian Government and its PSC partners. The Skillbase concept is a purpose built and cost-efficient logistics hub at the heart of a service centre for the oil and gas industry. The site is a model of oil industry design and planning, bringing services and suppliers together on a single site, linked to deepwater quaysides with capacity to handle supply vessels and cargo imports simultaneously.
